Job Description:

Budget Title: Assistant Facilities Program Coordinator (SL-3)

Salary range: $60,000 to $70,000 

 

Binghamton University is looking for a full time Project Coordinator to join our Construction Management Team within the Physical Facilities Department to manage research and science related projects.  This position would report to the Interim Director of Long-Term Planning and Construction Management. 

Project Coordinators work with the State University Construction Fund (FUND), Contractors, Physical Facilities staff and on-campus departments on the design and construction of Capital Projects.  

The incumbent will act as the primary contact person for all assigned projects from planning through execution by focusing on campus needs, impacts, budgets and schedules.  They will be tasked with monitoring construction schedules, reviewing design and construction documents, keeping construction documents current during projects, attending job and coordination meetings, observing tests performed on the job site, maintaining office records and files according to an established standard, preparing daily reports, reviewing submittals/shops, reviewing payment applications, assisting with inspection reports, and tracking/coordinating issues during the construction warranty periods. They will be expected to be on site daily and have knowledge of job site safety. 

The successful candidate will be a proactive, self-motivated professional with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; who possess the ability to maintain collaborative relationships and adapt to change while handling multiple tasks simultaneously.  

Due to the nature of the work, this position may require a non-standard work schedule with the ability to respond to off-hour emergencies.  

The initial assignment for this position will be the Battery R&D project. Recently Binghamton University’s New Energy New York project has been awarded more than $113 million to establish a hub for battery technology innovation in upstate New York. The US Economic Development Administration has awarded Binghamton University $63.7 million and New York State $50 million for the project to create a state-of-the-art battery facility at the Huron Campus in Endicott, NY.  This is an exciting four-year project where the selected candidate will work on a project team to renovate a space within the Huron Campus to add new dry-rooms, install equipment to support large scale battery prototyping and manufacturing of new innovative battery technologies.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Construction Management, Business, or other related field. 
  • Five to seven years of progressive experience in project management and/or working in the construction trades. 
  • Proficient in computer applications with the ability to use facility management programs, project management and spreadsheet software, calendar tools and other related software.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and technologies with a thorough understanding of project specifications, plan drawings and other construction documents; including submittals and shop drawings.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to effectively communicate complex issues with a diverse population.
  • Valid Driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in a higher education setting with multi-million-dollar facilities; prior knowledge of project management including planning, design, construction management, cost estimating, and budgets.
  • Working knowledge of New York State Building Codes and other code standards.
  • Technical knowledge of architectural, mechanical and electrical building systems.
