Research Services Team Leader
The Research Services Team Leader (RSTL) is part of a service-driven team that supports the research, instruction, and outreach services to the campus community. This position manages the delivery of research and instructional services for the campus and community including classes and workshops, and virtual reference services.
The RSTL supervises seven FTE staff. Administers annual evaluations, goal setting and mid-year review meetings; monitors progress toward goals and advise staff as needed; approve schedules and leave requests. Holds regular department meetings. Reviews and approves proposals for new projects, service policies and procedures. Initiates new programs and services to meet the changing needs of students and faculty. Evaluates the programs and services of the department through ongoing assessment and service statistics. Monitors trends in library staffing to strategically plan for future positions and reorganization within the department. Recruits new staff through the strategic hiring process; develop training programs. Develops procedures and policies for staff. Advocates for resources for staff projects or initiatives. Monitors the professional development and continuous learning of staff, suggest appropriate training and conferences to improve or expand skills.
The RSTL will work with the associate director for academic engagement to play a leadership role in library-wide policy making and, in the development, and evaluation of services. This position also works closely with other areas such as Special Collections, the Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship, Acquisitions and Metadata Services, and Access and Delivery. The RSTL serve as a member of the Kelvin Smith Library Collection Strategies Steering Committee.

- Develop partnerships with other campus stakeholders to position the library as a bridge between researchers in different fields to facilitate interdisciplinary scholarship and meet research needs. (7%)
- Plan and manage system wide initiates through participation on library, consortium and University task forces, team, and committees. (7%)
- Oversee the library services for in-person and virtual research assistance, subject guide preparation, course support, etc. (6%)
- Implement KSL strategic objectives regarding programs for information fluency. (6%)
- Oversee the delivery of instruction using a variety of formats, including online tutorials and face-to-face sessions. (6%)
- Collect and analyze data for decision-making and planning. )6%)
- Conduct and analyze surveys and focus groups of faculty, students, and staff to revamp or develop new services that are responsive to the needs of the user community. (6%)
- Compile reports and maintain relevant statistics related to operations under this team. (6%)

Department: Work closely with associate director on policy issues. Supervise team members to ensure excellent service. Collaborate with staff on all levels of the organization to support the provision of library services. Work with the associate provost and university librarian, associate directors, team leaders, and staff in all other units in the library as required.
University: Consult frequently with faculty, including assigned liaison faculty, faculty committees and other department administrators to determine teaching and research informational requirements to make appropriate information management decisions. Work regularly with faculty to develop, review, and improve information management policies and procedures. Consult regularly with other campus librarians to coordinate information management decisions for the provision of library services. Consult regularly with staff throughout the university to develop and implement programs for the delivery of services to students and faculty.
External: Participate in local, regional and national organizations to maintain a network of information professionals which enhances our services and to stay abreast of trends and changes in the profession. Collaborate with colleagues in OhioLINK and other academic libraries. Work with vendors to support print and electronic resource selections.
Students: Engage in daily communication with student assistants in the team to provide assistance and information resources to support their education and research needs.
Supervise exempt staff and non-exempt staff; student employees, and temporary full or part-time workers.
Experience: Team leaders must also have sufficient experience and expertise in the work of the team to serve as a supervisor, advisor and mentor to others. Team leader positions assume that the incumbent is at or eligible to be considered for placement at least at the Librarian 2 level.
Education: A Master's degree in Library/Information Science.

Possess a high level of expertise in research or other professional endeavors within his/her specific area of work.

Demonstrate evidence of substantial and sustained professional contributions to the library and to the institution through professional service (e.g., officer or chair of professional organizations or scholarly contribution (e.g., professional publications and presentations) at the state, regional, national or international level).
- Professional Qualities. Able to, and willingly offers, to effectively mentor other library staff.
- Ability to handle the stress of performing multiple concurrent tasks with interruptions as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to secure resources needed and to serve as a strong advocate to accomplish the mission of the library.
- Demonstrated success in human resources management, including the ability to engage staff in improvement and change.
- Proficient in project management to initiate, facilitate, conclude, and evaluate projects with efficiency and effectiveness.
- Possesses the ability to provide leadership within the larger organization to ensure that the needs of the team are well understood and valued.
- Effective at operations and project planning and execution.
- Team leaders must meet or exceed all expectations as outlined in the Librarian Broadband Policy that pertains to Librarian three or four.
General office/library environment. Evening and weekend work required.
