JOB SUMMARY: |

The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to evaluate, direct and deliver comprehensive nursing care to cancer patients in a safe and proficient manner according to individual patient needs. Assesses patient health problems and needs, develops and implements nursing care plans, and maintains medical records. Implements evidenced based practice, research development, process improvement, and education of staff. The nurse must encompass the roles of direct caregiver, patient education, chemotherapy and side effects with combined Radiation. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines.

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES: |
1. Participates in supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values and adheres to DeKalb Medical Standards of Behavior.
2. Provide professional nursing care to patients within the scope of practice.
3. Assess the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
4. Assist the physician with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments when appropriate.
5. Coordinate/order prescribed diagnostic testing to evaluate the treatment of patient while under the care of the radiation oncologist.
6. Document and record all activities, interventions, patient/family responses, medications dispensed/prescribed etc., in each patient medical chart whether paper or EMR.
7. Provide educational material and communicate physician advice and instructions to the patient.
8. Determine a physician approved care plan from assessment data, individualized to each patient according to condition or need.
9. Demonstrates a clear understanding of quality improvement and patient satisfaction, while actively improving each process/procedure.
10. Adhere to infection control, safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
11. Administer psychosocial distress screening; respond to identified clinical needs, and refer to navigation/ social work for other issues.
12. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with patient, family, team members, physicians and other staff.
13. Observe all safety and health regulations; ensure compliance of State and Federal regulations, and perform work in accordance with medical facility policies and procedures.
14. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of DeKalb Medical.

QUALIFICATIONS |
Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required:
|
· Current Georgia License as a Registered Professional Nurse. · Graduate from an accredited college of nursing. · ASN degree required, BSN strongly preferred. · Greater than two years of experience in Radiation Oncology is preferred. · OCN Preferred · BLS certification through the American Heart Association required. |
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: |

· Performs skills and competencies as defined in orientation checklist and annual departmental competency checklist if applicable.
· Demonstrates and maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
· Knowledge of current trends and demonstration of standards of care in Radiation Oncology.
