River/Canal Pilots, Captains, Relief Captains
Overview
Savage Inland Marine has immediate openings for qualified River/Canal Pilots, Captains, Relief Captains in its Marine Division located in Gibson, LA. Savage operates on the Western and Inland Waterways river systems. Vessel employees are scheduled on a 28 day on/14 day off rotation and work two six hour watches each day with six hour rest periods in between watches.
Responsibilities
The River Pilot takes direction from the River Captain concerning tow configurations, drop-offs, pick-ups, and the duties of other crewmembers (Deckhands, Tankermen, Engineers, and Mates) on the River Pilot's watch
- The Pilot will periodically assume full responsibility for the Captain's duties, overseeing the work of crewmembers (Deckhands, Tankermen, Engineers, and Mates) concerning tows, tow configurations, maintenance of vessel, and other operational concerns
- During duty hours when the Captain is at rest, the River Pilot has direct control and responsibility of the boat, barges, and crew, and is responsible for safely navigating the tow while transiting Locks, Rivers and all of its tributaries
- Complete all U.S. Coast Guard, DOT and Savage Inland Marine required paperwork as directed by the Captain
- Answer directly to the Captain when completing Drill and Training exercises
Qualifications
- The River Pilot must have a minimum US Coast guard license of Mate of Towing upon Inland Waters and Western Rivers with no Tonnage restriction
- All applicants MUST attach a resume to be considered for this positon, NO EXCEPTIONS
- Must possess a valid TWIC card
- Must possess a valid FCC radio license
- Applicants should be completely posted on two or more of these systems: Ohio, Illinois, Arkansas, Black Warrior, Tom Bigbee, Tennessee/Cumberland, Mississippi (Upper and Lower), or IntracoastalWaterway (East and West)
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must have a basic understanding of computer hardware and software such as internet browsers and email
- Must have excellent communication skills, a drive to achieve results, and a strong commitment to health, environmental, and safety principles

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to pass pre employment physical
- Must be able to lift 50# frequently
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
