About the Opportunity
The Banner Support Technical Lead (IT Analyst/Programmer III) serves as the technical lead for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Team that provides development and technical support to UNC System Office leadership and the 14 Banner campuses to make the most effective use of the Banner ERP system. At present, the ERP Team provides solutions and support in the HR, Payroll, Student, Finance, and Financial Aid modules of Banner. This position will have a hands-on programming role to generate the necessary SQL code/procedures required for implementation, as well as provide hands-on assistance to the campuses during deployment of the SQL code and all associated activities such as internal Banner data manipulation, business process revisions/changes, and integration of 3rd party systems. This position will also provide general subject matter expertise in at least one of these areas while acting as a liaison to the other technical experts on the team. The position will work closely with the ERP Operations Support Manager to effectively coordinate the functional and technical resources to best meet the needs of the UNC System Office and the campuses.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid or remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
About the UNC System Office
The UNC System Office includes the offices of the President and other senior administrators of the multi-campus University of North Carolina System. The UNC System is a treasured public institution dedicated to serving the people of North Carolina through world-class teaching, research, and community engagement. Today, nearly 250,000 students are enrolled in our 16 universities across the state and at the NC School of Science and Mathematics. System Office staff is responsible for executing the policies of the UNC Board of Governors and providing University-wide leadership in the areas of academic affairs, business and financial management, long-range planning, student affairs, research, legal affairs, and government relations. The UNC System Office also has administrative oversight of a number of University affiliates, including PBS North Carolina, the North Carolina Arboretum, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and University of North Carolina Press.
About the Team
The Information Technology division works collaboratively with UNC constituent institutions to help ensure efficient and cost-effective integration of new technologies that meet common and unique needs of the 17 institutions. The Division is also charged with managing the highly complex enterprise-wide data modernization efforts that will enable the System to better monitor, evaluate, and manage our enterprise; as well as facilitate timely comparisons across the 17 institutions and create better data-sharing capabilities for smarter and more efficient data-driven decisions.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
Masters and 2-4 years experience or Bachelors and 3-5 years experience or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Competencies
- Banner Data Model: Must be extremely familiar with the Banner data model, its naming conventions, and have experience extracting and transforming this information for a variety of purposes. An understanding of Banner security principles is a plus.
- PL/SQL Programming: Must have significant experience programming in PL/SQL and be able to quickly and efficiently produce both SQL queries, and custom PL/SQL code. Experience with code optimization and SQL tuning preferred.
- Systems and Database Experience: Must have experience with concepts related to systems and database administration on an Oracle/Linux platform. For example, code maintenance/repository experience, file encryption, shell scripting, secure file transfers, APIs, SSO and other systems integration skills.
- Technical Knowledge: Extensive technical knowledge in a highly specialized area of applications systems analysis and programming including integrated development environments such as Eclipse or IntelliJ. Detailed understanding of technical issues to design architecture for new or emerging technologies with an interest in learning and expanding their knowledge.
- Technical Solution Development: Ability to lead and advise on technical and complex projects. Demonstrates substantial knowledge of other work specialties with the ability to integrate this knowledge base to achieve solutions to problems of high complexity.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to promote and facilitate collaboration, cooperation, and teamwork among diverse groups and individuals.
- Persistence: Ability to deal with ambiguity, collect information and data through research, handle multiple demands concurrently, and manage projects with short deadlines.
- Project Management: Ability to manage complex projects that have high impact.
